Best Fidget Toys of 2024
The first section on our list of gifts for autistic adults is, of course, fidgets. Fidget toys and tools are not only becoming more interesting and increasingly specialized for different sensory needs, but they’re also getting sturdier as well. Considering my propensity for accidentally breaking things, this is great news. I’m sure it will be great news for your autistic loved ones also, who are sure to love the fidgets on this list of gifts for autistic adults.
Satisfying Sensory Worry Stones
These sensory worry stones are a great gift for people with autism. They are made of soft silicone and have six different soothing textures. You can rub a finger across the different textures or you can twist them into different shapes. Sturdy and washable, these sensory worry stones will last far longer than most fidget toys.
A Wonderfully Wavy Fidget Ring
I love subtle stim jewelry, something that’s easy to see on my favorite fidget jewelry post. This wavy fidget ring by JewelrybyJacqulyn on Etsy is so cute that it makes me want to do a part 2 for fidget jewelry. The ring is handmade in 925 Sterling silver and you can choose between one and three balls on the design. It’s a great piece of minimalist jewelry with the added bonus of stimming. What’s not to love?

Fidget Pencil Sleeves for Full-Time Fidgets
Whether you’re in school or in the office, these fidget pencil sleeves are great gifts for autistic adults. Made of premium-grade silicone, they are easy to clean and durable enough for daily use. Slide these pencil sleeves onto pens, pencils, and even paintbrushes. They come in three different color combinations, which is always a bonus in my humble opinion. I also like that they make pencils a bit easier to grip which is helpful considering many people with autism also struggle with hand mobility.
The Perfect Fidget for Someone Who Loves Sorting
Autistic people often have an inherent love of sorting which is why this rotating sorting fidget is a perfect gift. It’s kind of like a Rubik’s Cube without having to remember all the algorithms. There are multiple difficulty options as there are a variety of options to choose from. You can choose between 4, 6, 8, or 12 layers to sort and fidget with. Additionally, you can choose between 8 or 12 colors to sort so there are many ways to enjoy this sorting fidget toy.
Get Creative With A Pushpeel Sensory Board
The Pushpeel Sensory Board was originally created by moms who wanted to entertain their kids in waiting rooms and car rides without offering them a screen to watch. Unsurprisingly, adults have been loving it too because look how fun it is! Each board comes with 11 colorful silicone strings that you can bend to create fun and satisfying designs. Pushpeel Sensory Boards are recommended by occupational therapists as they help to develop fine motor skills, enhance dexterity, and improve hand-eye coordination.
Cute Kawaii Sensory Squishies
These adorable Kawaii sensory squishies are next on the list of gift ideas for autistic adults. This set of squishy fidget toys are made of soft and durable silicone so it will take dedication to love them to death. They are made from a non-toxic and scent-free silicone so they are great fidgets for sensory seekers who are sensitive to smell and/or prone to chewing on things. These tiny Kawaii squishies are small enough to fit in your pocket so you can squish on the go.
The Morf Fidget Worm
The Morf Fidget Worm isn’t your typical fidget toy. This fidget toy flexes, extends, collapses, and accordions. The Morf Fidget Worm is made of quiet, flexible plastic so no annoying clicking sound. There are two types, two sizes, and six different colors to choose from. We love a versatile fidget toy!
Pick Away at This Reusable Picking Pad
As a skin picker, the picking pad fad appeals to me but I’ve hesitated to buy any because the one-time use aspect of it annoys me. That’s why this reusable picking pad is a perfect gift that just keeps on giving the gift of picking! You can pick away at the pretty Garden of Eden-themed beads and the glow-in-the-dark crystals. Once you’ve picked to your heart’s content, pop the materials in your microwave and you can pick all over again.
Gift Ideas for Autistic Adults: Sensory Friendly Lighting
The next section on this list of gifts for neurodivergent adults will surprise zero neurodivergent people. That’s because every neurodivergent person needs sensory-friendly lighting. The big light is not our friend. We need softer lighting that appeals to our sensory needs. Extra points if the sensory-friendly lighting appeals to our special interest. So without further ado, here are some lighting options that make great gifts for autistic adults.
This 3-D Solar System Lamp is Out of This World (I’m Sorry)
Listen, I know I try to fight stereotypes about autism but admittedly, we do tend to love space. Space is awesome. Who doesn’t like space? Which is exactly why this 3-D Solar System lamp is a great gift for autistic adults. The solar system is set in a crystal ball and is lit from below. The space crystal ball light has two modes and four color options to choose from or rotate through. Bonus feature: you can also choose between batteries or a USB cord so you’re not confined to one area close to an outlet.
Pretty Flameless Candles Set the Coziest of Vibes
Flameless candles are always a great addition to add some soft (aka tolerable) lighting to a room. Unfortunately, many flameless candles look unnatural and so obviously fake. That’s why I love this set of beautiful flameless candles. I love the pretty green jars they come in that can fit in with so many different decor styles. They come in red for your favorite Christmas lover or you can get them in a sage or tangerine. There are timer options for 2, 4, 6, and 8 hours and come with a remote so not only is there no need to remember to turn them off, but you can also do so without getting up. We love that.
Whimsical Stained Glass Lighting
These stained glass lamps are so cute, my best friend is getting one for Christmas. She doesn’t know it yet but it’s happening because these are so perfectly her. Although, she probably will know once I post this list but whatever. Blog reading friend test time haha Anyway, this adorable stained glass lamp is perfect for you witchy friends, especially since it comes in nine colors to choose from. The stained glass lampshade offers soft, gentle lighting for any room so your neurospicy loved one is sure to love it.
Floating Candles Aren’t Just for Harry Potter Fans
Give them the gift of magic this holiday season! You don’t have to be a Harry Potter fan to enjoy these fun floating candles. These floating candles appear to float in thin air while hanging from a barely visible fishing line. Simply hang up the fishing line and give your best flick of the wand to light up these magical floating candle lights. The floating candles come in packs of 6, 10, 12, or 20 and you can choose with or without a timer. Your autistic loved one is sure to enjoy a fleeting moment of wizardry whenever they turn these floating candles on or off.
A Galaxy Projecting Astronaut is the Best Big Light Alternative
I’ve had the white version of this for a few years now. I love it but this black astronaut galaxy projector would look way better with the rest of my decor. I love this galaxy projector because it has a wider range of options compared to most galaxy projectors. The projection is strong without being an overwhelming beam of light across the room. I can also assure you that it’s sturdy as I have knocked it over many times and it still works flawlessly. If you’re more of a dog lover than a space lover, there’s a new dog version for you too!
Dinosaur Night Lights For That Dino-Loving Dopamine
Would this even be a list I made of gifts for autistic adults if I didn’t include a dino thing (or two)? This year’s dinosaur light gift guide nominee is this adorably grumpy little guy. This dinosaur night light is made of soft, non-toxic, scent-free silicone, making it very autism friendly. Portable and color-changing, this dinosaur light makes a great night light and is perfect for creating a calm environment. It is touch-activated and has a long battery life before it needs recharging. It’s truly Dino-mite! (I’m sorry.)
A Light for Nature Lovers
This moon, sea, and mountain light is a beautiful addition to my ongoing list of sensory friendly lighting recommendations. This stunning light is portable with a long battery life, has three color options to choose from, and has a dimming feature. It can also play music via Bluetooth if you’re so inclined for such a vibe. It’s surprisingly loud for its small size, too. I also like that this unique seascape light has the option to switch the moon on or off. Your autistic loved one is sure to love this unique lamp as much as I do.
Special Interest Gifts For The Autistic Adult Soul
Autistic people are prone to intense special interests which can provide a helpful track for gift-giving. If you’re looking for gifts for autistic adults in your life, consider their special interests and get them something related to that interest. While autistic people are not a monolith and we have a wide range of special interests, there are some special interests that are admittedly common. In this next section, I’ve included some gift ideas related to common autism special interests.
Predict Stormy Weather With a Storm Glass
Whether your autistic loved one has a special interest in the weather or simply loves the cold weather where they live, they’re sure to love this weather predicting storm glass. The storm glass takes two weeks to acclimate so be patient with it. After that, the water inside will change to predict the water outside. This weather predicting storm glass is a great addition to any room (as long as you don’t live in a warm climate.) Set it up and watch the snowflake patterns change with the whispy winter weather.
Puzzle Sorting Trays That Can Be Used for Numerous Special Interests
If you have a puzzle lover in your life, they’re sure to love these puzzle sorting trays! I love doing puzzles and always sort through pieces. It’s frustrating to sort and re-sort because of time or space constraints which is why these puzzle sorting trays are such a wonderful game changer. They’re not just for puzzle lovers though. They can be used for beading, jewelry making, scrapbooking, and whatever other crafts where you find yourself sorting things. Other sorting trays are often thick fabrics which I don’t find as helpful and prone to taking tumbles so I love that these can be stacked on top of each other into a sturdy box that doesn’t collapse onto itself.
A Hefty Cup of Pumpkin Spiced Autism
Next up on gifts for autistic adults is a steaming hot cup of pumpkin spiced autism. This Pumpkin Spiced Autism mug is the perfect gift for your neurospicy loved ones who are obsessed with fall and anything pumpkin spiced. Admittedly, it is from my own Etsy store and I find it hilarious. More people have bought it than I expected though, so I must not be completely insane with my sense of humor. The Pumpkin Spiced Autism coffee mug comes in 11 oz. and 15 oz. sizes and you can choose between black and white options. Happy neurospicy sipping!
Something for Sloth Lovers to Slip Into
We all know someone who intensely loves sloths. I (kind of) get it. It’s hard not to love an animal that’s so cute and so weird looking all at once. Support their sloth special interest and their presumable love of all things cozy by getting them this sloth wearable blanket. It’s soft and warm and lets you be wrapped in a blanket without having to drag around a blanket everywhere. Not into sloths? There are plenty of other animals suited to special interests as well. They have raccoons, dinosaurs, unicorns, spotted cows, highland cows, (gasps for breath) foxes, penguins, axolotls, and even ones with pockets for your cat!
Autistic Special Interest Double Whammy Gift: Space Legos
I maintain that I don’t know who doesn’t like legos or find space cool but they are both undoubtedly common autistic special interests. This special Lego set tells tales of the space age inspired by 1980s sci-fi pop culture. This Space Age Legos set makes 3D postcard models with four different scenes that can be done separately or connected together. A particularly cool feature is that on the pink postcard, you can arrange the stars in three different constellations. You can also get this cool BrickBling LED set that adds a light feature made especially for this Space Age Lego set.
A Rock Tumbler for Your Favorite Rock Enthusiast
As I’ve already said, autistic people are not a monolith and we do actually have a wide range of different interests. That being said, we do tend to love rocks. You know how every kid has that toy they always wanted growing up that no one ever got them? To me, that gift is a rock tumbler. My husband keeps joking he’s going to get me a rock tumbler, partially because he knows how badly I’ve always wanted one. Partially because it’s an affront to his Bedouin self every time I spend money on polished rocks. If you’re looking for gifts for a neurodivergent adult who is a rock hound like me, trust me and get them the rock tumbler. They will never forget it and will love you forever.
The Best Reading Pillow for Your Neurospicy Loved One
Books are probably my longest-running special interest. I just love them. I love the smell of them and just being in rooms full of them. Recently I read that reading is a common special interest for people with autism. They help us escape to far-off places when our lives can often feel constricting and lonely. They teach us social norms and about other people, as well as different viewpoints and approaches to interactions and conflict resolution. When I was younger I used to find myself reading in all kinds of crazy positions. Now in my mid-30s, those random positions are likely to leave a weird kink somewhere in my body. Enter a fantastically versatile reading pillow.
The INSEN reading pillow offers support in all kinds of reading positions. It can be folded to lift your legs up so you can kick back and relax into another world rather than into tight ankles. It provides back and shoulder support as you squirrel your way through different positions. Not just for reading, the INSEN reading pillow is also great for nursing or creating a safe space to contain a newborn. It’s also light and the pillowcase is washable, further proving why it’s such a great reading pillow.
Useful Gifts for Autistic Adults
Next up on this autism gift guide are gifts for autistic adults that would be useful for people with autism. From gifts that help with life tasks, staying organized, or self-regulating, you already know I’ve got you covered. Read on for more gift ideas for autistic adults, gifts for autistic women, and even gifts for autistic young adults.
Task Bracelets to Help Keep Track of Life
Many autistic people find household and hygiene tasks overwhelming. We often forget to do them and it can be hard to keep track sometimes. That’s why these task bracelets are a brilliant gift for someone with autism. The task bracelets are customizable. You just enter the tasks you need help keeping track of in the personalization box when placing an order. These task bracelets also come in three sizes which makes them a great gift for autistic young adults as well as autistic women. Of course, they would also make a great gift for autistic male adults who are okay with pink bracelets but the seller may be willing to do custom colors for you.
Crash Into Self Regulation
This crash pad is the ultimate gift for someone with autism who regularly needs some of that heavy sensory input. It is 5 feet x 5 feet of foam-filled crash pad goodness for you to throw yourself into. The washable cover comes in three colors and the inner cover can be easily wiped clean so you don’t have to worry about letting it all out (or spills). Crash pads are great for sensory input which helps with calming down and self-regulation, making it a great gift for people with autism of all ages.
Help Fight Decision Exhaustion With the Decision Maker
This decision making necklace is the perfect gift for someone who struggles with decision exhaustion. Not only is it a beautiful necklace, but simply give the pendant a spin and let the necklace decide whether it’s a yes or no. Even if you don’t want to go along with the outcome, at least it’s helped you decide — decision exhaustion be gone! This decision making necklace is made of 18K gold plated sterling silver and is 22 inches long. A neat detail about the decision maker necklace is it’s designed so the words ‘yes’ and ‘no’ face whoever is wearing it so it’s easy to read while wearing it.
Calm Down With This Cute Koala Light
There are multiple reasons why this calm down koala light is next on this list of gifts for autistic adults. This koala light is not only cute, but it has three guided breathing features to help you either calm down, get focused, or drift off to sleep. Simply select the program you need and breath along with the light. This calming koala light is great for self-regulation, something many autistic people struggle with. I also love this gift idea because you can gear it towards a special interest as there are numerous other styles. There are bunnies, Buddhas, bears, owls, puppies, penguins, and pandas. Beyond the animal kingdom, you’ll find lotus flowers, clouds, and moon lights galore.
The Best Bento Boxes for Food (or Knick Knacks)
If you’re looking to support small businesses this holiday season, allow me to introduce you to Dearest Grey. Dearest Grey makes such cute Bento boxes that I’m annoyed with myself for not including them on this blog sooner. Started by a mom in her kitchen, Dearest Grey makes adorable bento boxes in multiple sizes. They offer lunchboxes without dividers, lunch boxes with dividers, SnackPacs with extra dividers, little dipper bentos, and more — all in fun colors! I love how great these are for meal prep, packing jewelry or other small things for travel, or keeping various tchotchkes organized when I refuse to get rid of them.
It’s worth noting that I don’t just love Dearest Grey’s bento boxes because they’re cute. I love them because not only are they microwave and freezer safe, but they are also dishwasher safe, oven safe, and even air fryer safe!
Books That Make Good Gifts for Autistic Adults
You already know I love books so of course they’re going to be a section on this list of gifts for autistic adults. I’m admittedly behind on my reading this year (thanks to this war, I feel like I’m behind on everything this year though) so I don’t have as much to add as I usually would. Obviously, that doesn’t mean I have nothing to add though, so read on for some neurodivergent book recommendations!
We’re Not Broken by Eric Garcia
I’ve had We’re Not Broken on my shelf for probably a year now. I finally picked it up recently and finished it in five days. It’s that good. I appreciate that Eric Garcia chose not to write a memoir. I hope he does one day because it undoubtedly would be very interesting but I think the approach he took with We’re Not Broken is a necessary addition to autism lit.
In We’re Not Broken, Garcia writes about the autistic experience, speaking with autistic people with varying levels of support needs. He looks at the misinformation that has spread about autism and how that misinformation has seeped into politics and common perceptions. Garcia writes about his own experiences in a way I found so relatable that it was legitimately healing to me in some ways. I intend to force my husband to read it and think anyone with an autistic loved one should also read it, which is why it’s on this list of gift ideas for autistic adults!
Color Taste Texture
Color Taste Texture is a cookbook written for (in their words) “picky eaters, those with food aversion, and anyone who’s ever cringed at food.” It includes tips, techniques, and some understanding about food aversion. Color Taste Texture teaches you how to alter the palette, taste, or texture profile of a dish so you can eat delicious and nutritious things without getting the ick mid-bite. The recipes in Color Taste Texture can also be easily tailored for vegan or gluten-free eaters as well, which makes it a great cookbook to have on hand for the neurospicy people in your life.
The Autism-Friendly Cookbook
The Autism-Friendly Cookbook was written by Lydia Wilkins, a journalist who covers disability and social justice issues. What makes it autism-friendly you ask? Well, for starters it’s written in jargon-free language in a clear and concise way that’s easy for autistic people to follow. It is categorized into energy levels (!!!) so you can get cooking guidance on low energy and even meltdown days! Truly brilliant in my opinion. The Autism-Friendly Cookbook has adaptations for diets such as gluten-free or vegan which is great, but I love that it also includes adaptations for sensory preferences and even sensory seekers. It’s clear that actually autistic people contributed to making this cookbook and that’s why you should give it to every autistic person you know.
The Illustrated Guide to Rocks & Minerals
Okay, maybe this book should have gone in the special interest section but it’s a book, right? With the autistic love of rocks as well as sorting and identifying things, this Illustrated Guide to Rocks & Minerals is a great gift for someone with autism. This guide has over 800 images and includes a digestable amount of interesting rock and geology information. If you have a rock hound in your life, you could even get them a more localized rock guide. You can get them for the Pacific Coast, Eastern Coast, or even state-specific, from California to Texas, or from Florida to Minnesota.
Cozy Gifts for Autistic Adults
Neurodivergent people need a lot of downtime to recharge. When we do actually leave the house, we need clothes that are comfortable and don’t add to our sensory overload. This means we love cozy clothing. Give the gift of cozy this holiday season and give your autistic loved one something they can snuggle up and rot live in. This next section is some of my favorite cozy items your loved ones are sure to also love.
An Adjustable Reading or Gaming Pillow
This versatile reading pillow is sure to be loved by every autistic person. This convenient pillow is versatile and comfortable for anything you want to do while laying in bed (other than the things people say bed is for.) Sometimes I just really need to be laying down but wish I could keep working. I’m too tall to deal with my laptop comfortably in bed and this pillow is the perfect solution. With this pillow, you can comfortably read, game, or eat without all the neck and back pain from being hunched up like the gremlin you are.
A Sigh-Worthy Sherpa Lined Sweatshirt
People with autism often struggle to regulate their body temperature. I’m positive this is the reason why I run so cold and am always so bundled up all winter long. That’s why this sherpa sweatshirt is a great gift for autistic adults. It’s soft and warm without being bulky or feeling restricting. This soft sherpa sweatshirt is great quality for the money and is also machine washable – another neurodivergent plus! It also comes in seven colors so you can get yourself one without matching who you buy it for!
Teddy Bear Hoodies to Live In
When I say you’ll want to live in this teddy bear hoodie, I mean it because I have two of them that live at my desk all winter as my go-to frigid office fighter. I have the khaki-colored one that I’ll sometimes wear out with a cute outfit if I think we’ll be sitting outside. The other one I have is the pink and blue tie-dye one which my husband always seems embarrassed when I wear but it only ever goes as far as to walk the dogs so it’s fine. I see they now offer this teddy bear hoodie in even more options so now I might have to get another one.
The Best Teddy Bear Jacket
It doesn’t rain much where I live so this teddy bear coat is my favorite jacket during the winter here. It’s got such a comfortable weight to it and is perfectly warm without making me overheat. I’ve had it for four years now and it’s still in great shape, which I honestly didn’t expect. This teddy bear coat also has good pockets so your stuff won’t be falling out of them all the time. Not losing shit is definitely a big plus in my book.
Lounging Around Gifts for Neurodivergent Adults
As already mentioned, autistic people tend to need a lot of downtime. That’s why items that improve lounging around make great gifts for autistic adults. If you’re holiday shopping for an autistic loved one, they’re sure to love at least one of the items in the following section.
Decompress With This Tablet Stand Pillow
This tablet stand pillow is both cute and functional. I’m at the age where I’m starting to worry if I look down at my phone too much that I’ll end up with turkey neck or a double chin so anything that can bring my phone up to eye level is a plus for me. My arthritic hands are also appreciative to not be on full-time phone-holding duty. This tablet stand pillow is universal so it can fit phones and tablets from 4 inches tall to 13 inches tall. If pink isn’t your color, don’t worry because this tablet stand pillow also comes in grey, green, or white, and the cover is even machine washable.
Get to Couch Cruising With a Couch CaddyThis
This convenient couch caddy is perfect for a downtime day of tatering. I hate having to round everything up or take multiple trips to clean up on my way to bed. With this couch caddy, you can keep all your remotes at hand, drinks and snacks within reach, and whatever else you could use it for. Added bonus: the silicone liner can be easily taken out and washed. Truly, this couch caddy makes couch cleanup easier on multiple levels.
A Blanket For Dino Nugget Lovers
Support the autistic love of dino nuggets with this funny dino nugget blanket. It’s super soft so you can cozy up under it and warm up like a little nugget yourself. It comes in five different sizes and is super light which makes it great for the couch or for traveling. It’s machine washable and can go in the dryer so it’s easy to keep it from getting grimy. Your autistic loved one is sure to get a laugh out of this dino nugget blanket and love cozying up with it.
Rest Your Head On a Tender Dino Nuggie
Love the dino nuggets but not feeling the blanket? Then maybe you’ll like this set of dino nugget pillows instead! They come in a set of three lovable dino nuggets and are sure to bring a smile to the face of your autistic loved one. They are cute and soft and perfect to squish into during a long couch sesh. These dino pillows also come in two sizes so you can decide just how much dino nugget to love.
Game Gift Ideas for Neurodivergent Adults
The next section on this list of gifts for autistic adults is games. Despite the stereotypes, many autistic people do enjoy socializing. It’s just the social cues and neurotypical expectations of us that we struggle with. Due to those difficulties with social cues, games are a great gift for autistic adults. Games can help people be more social without having to worry about making small talk or reading all the right social cues. They’re a way to engage with other people without all the usual pressures of socializing which is why I’m including them on this list.
For Trivia Lovers, Wit’s End is Sure To Be a Winning Gift
Wit’s End is a board game that includes trivia and brain teasers. There are four categories that make Wit’s End such a fun and challenging game. The categories are teasers (riddles), Odd 1 Out, Sequence, and Wild Card. Each category is a mixture of topics such as science, history, geography, pop culture mysteries, and current affairs. Your autistic loved one will love putting their random knowledge and pattern-sensing brain to the test with this competitive game! Wit’s End can be played with 2 to 6 players so it is small-group friendly and thus neurodivergent friendly as well since no large and overwhelming groups are required to play.
The Perfect Trivia Game for Autistic People With a Special Interest in Music
SongFest! is a super fun music trivia game. Don’t worry millennials, you don’t need to know Gen Z’s favorite artists since this game spans five decades of music. SongFest! includes categories in music trivia, finish the lyric, name that song, and name that artist. I also love that it has QR codes to play clips for challenge questions. It isn’t just great for music lovers though. SongFest! game will have you reminiscing and sharing stories with everyone you play with so it’s sure to be a new favorite for your friends and family. I also love that this game is versatile and can be played with anywhere from 2 to 12 people.
A Card Game to Break the Ice or Form Deeper Bonds
We’re Not Really Strangers is a card game for teens, adults, couples, or even strangers. It includes 150 question cards to get the conversation going. Autistic people tend to struggle with small talk. Beyond small talk, I often find myself struggling to ask people questions about themselves. It’s not that I’m not curious about them. I just always figure if they want me to know something about themselves, they’ll tell me. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned the fault in this thought process and try to inquire more. Even then, the questions often get lost between my brain and mouth and I struggle to get them out sometimes. That’s why I think We’re Not Really Strangers is a great gift for autistic adults.
The questions can be a bit open-ended which may be a little difficult for some autistic people, but I still think it’s a really useful game of a gift. Beyond just a question game, We’re Not Really Strangers has different levels to it including questions about how you’re perceived. This can be a really helpful tool for autistic adults as we tend to be very stuck in our own heads and hearing these things helps us improve ourselves and our relationships. We’re Not Really Strangers comes in multiple options: adult, couples, family, dating, friends, and more so it’s a great gift idea that can be used in numerous situations.
Self Regulate With Safe Axe Throwing
Okay, I admit it. This indoor/outdoor axe throwing set is on here because I saw it and thought it was awesome, not because it has something particular to do with autism. However, I can argue anything and am trying to sound like I know what I’m talking about on this blog so I’ll make a case.
Autistic people often have mobility or grip issues, making this at-home axe-throwing set a good occupational therapy gift. Secondly, when autistic people are overwhelmed or facing a meltdown, it can be hard to get the sensory input we need to self-regulate our emotions. Sometimes autistic people will seek that sensory feedback by thrashing their arms or swinging them around which is why I think this 2-in-1 axe throwing set is a great gift for autistic adults. Rather than just flailing arms around, it gives a direction and focus to that energy to blow off some steam in a healthy and safe way. It even comes with two types of axes, foam and plastic, so you can adjust the sensory feedback as needed.
Gift Ideas for Neurodivergent Adults Who Love Crafts
Autistic people are just on the perpetual hunt for something to do with our hands. Fidgeting with things helps us with auditory processing, self-regulation, and anxiety. The latter one often becomes counterproductive though, when in an attempt to do something with my hands, I end up doom-scrolling for hours and end up more anxious than when I started. Enter crafts and other fun things to do. I love crafting and building things which is why I’ve saved the best category for last on this list of gift ideas for autistic adults.
Give the Gift of Nostalgia With Wood Tangrams
Recently, a reel went around on Instagram where an autistic man ordered those colorful tangrams every kid in the ’90s remembers playing with. Let me tell you, my autistic friends went nuts. Half of them went and ordered them that moment and have been playing away with them since. If you really want to give someone the gift of nostalgia, you can get them the old school colorful tangrams in the primary colors that so defined ’90s decor. Personally, I love this pretty wood tangram set even more. The soft wood tangrams are a bit more my aesthetic, and by that I mean I could leave it out and not feel embarrassed if someone saw me playing with them. (Yes, I’m working on that in therapy.)
A Mini Blocks Dinosaur Museum
I have this dinosaur museum mini blocks set and am of course obsessed with it. The size of it means it’s not one that I can hyperfocus on and accidentally knock out in a day, which is a huge plus for me when it comes to mini blocks sets. I also love that the dinosaur museum comes with a few options for the display so you can build it a bit differently each time rather than building the exact same thing over and over again. The different floors of full of cute dinosaur artifacts making it truly hours of dino-loving fun.
Quilling Kits For Every Crafting Cutie
This beginner’s quilling set is a great gift for autistic adults. It’s a craft that doesn’t require following complicated directions while making cute things. What’s not to love? This beginner’s quilling set comes with a project booklet to teach you how to make different designs and all the supplies you need to make them. Quilling is a great craft to help keep your hands busy without having to get invested in a big, time-consuming project. Additionally, it can help with some of those grip and mobility problems I mentioned before, all of which is why this quilling set is included on this list of gifts for autistic adults.
Klutz’s Kawaii Mini Erasers Kit For All the Dopamine Joy
I don’t think I will ever get so old I stop loving Klutz’s craft kits and Kawaii items. I don’t have any hard evidence on it, but I’m convinced there’s a preponderance of autistic love for Kawaii items. It’s all just so cute and colorful that it sucks us right in, which is presumably why half the autistic people I know have some kind of Kawaii collection or obsession. Many of us also have collections of mini erasers (guilty) which is why this Kawaii mini erasers kit is the next item on this autism gift guide. The mini eraser kit includes a guide with easy-to-follow instructions and clay that you mold and then bake to set the shape. Once baked, it becomes a squishable and working eraser. We both know you’ll probably collect it rather than use the eraser and that’s perfectly acceptable (and what I would do.)
A Tiny Camper Kit That Brings a Big Batch of Dopamine
While we’re on Klutz’s craft kits, I have to include this mixed media tiny camper kit. Why? Because look how cute! First, you assemble the chipboard paper camper, then you decorate it using the other materials in the kit. This tiny camper kit includes fabric, sequins, and other mixed media to decorate to get every last drop of dopamine something so tiny and cute like this camper craft kit can bring you.
Gear Bots for the Gear Head In Your Life
This Lego Gear Bots kit is sure to bring some joy to anyone in your life who likes building things. This Gear Bots kit includes eight physics-driven creatures to build. Any STEM lover is sure to love this kit and its use of axles, cams, and cranks to create these moving (and adorable) gear bots. Each Gear Bots set comes with step-by-step instructions and all of the pieces you need to get Gear Bot building.
A Book Sorting Shelf for Soothing the Autistic Soul
There are a lot of stereotypes and misunderstandings about autism but our love of sorting is not one of them. In fact, sorting is one of the earliest symptoms that autistic children show. We often play by sorting or lining toys up rather than engaging with them the way neurotypical children do. This love of sorting often continues into adulthood and manifests in a variety of ways. In honor of that love of sorting, the last (but certainly not least) item on this list of gifts for autistic adults is this book sorting shelf. It both answers the autistic love of miniature things as well as sorting, making it a great autism gift idea. This book sorting shelf includes 200 cute miniature books for you to sort any which way you want. Then just shake it up and sort them again for endless soothing by sorting.
